Marceau DesPlanque, 82, of Hamilton died Nov. 5. 2005. He was born March 16, 1923, in
Waukee to Marceau and Hortense (Piquay) DesPlanque. Marceau grew up in Flagler.
He was a 1941 graduate of the Knoxville High School. He served his country from
1943 to 1945 in the 8th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World
War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He married Vera Morgan on Sept. 4, 1948,
in Knoxville. Marceau worked for Central Walnut Company, Dunreath Coal Company,
Star Coal Company and retired from Jude Coal Company at the age of 70. He was a
member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church, Bussey American Legion post 505
and the Bussey Masonic Lodge. Marceau enjoyed sports, especially fishing, hunting
and bowling, in which he won the Oskaloosa City Championship in 1976. He was an
avid Cub and Hawkeye fan. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years; son David
DesPlanque of Des Moines; three daughters Linda (Jack) Dobbs of Des Moines, Rhonda
(Gary) Morgan of Albia and Laura (Steve) Davis of Hamilton; nine grandchildren;
thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters Isabelle Lapsey of Davenport and Alice
(Richard) Dicks of Des Moines; brother Donald (Shirley) DesPlanque of Johnston and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter (Marlene)
and sister (Yvonne).
