Memorial services for Leonard William Burkard, 39, Cedar Rapids, who died from injuries
from a fall, on September 22, 1994 at the Cedar Rivers Apartment Building in Cedar
Rapids, were held September 26 at Christ The King Catholic Church. Burial was at
Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
Leonard was born on April 27, 1955 in Denver, Colo., the son of William C. and Evelyn
Swaying Burkard.
He attended school in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in the
Class of 1973. He was also a graduate of Central College in Pella and earned a master's
degree from Purdue University.
He was a member of the Chicago Bicycle Club. Leonard was employed by the MCI Telecommunications
Corporation and worked in research and development. He had lived in Cedar Rapids
for the past four years.
He was preceded in death by his mother in April 1994.
Survivors include his father, William C. Burkard of Des Moines; one brother, Henry
Burkard of Des Moines; one sister, Joanne Andersen of Sanborn; and his twin sister,
Leona Haselrick of Paola, Kansas.

The Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines was in charge of the arrangements.
