Funeral services for Leona Frances (Whitlatch) Cline, 87, of Waterloo, who died October 4, at the Raven Wond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, were held October 7, 1997, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville at a later date.

The Rev. Martha Ward officiated at the services. Music was provided by Linda Gehling, organist, and Rev. Bob Morris, soloist.

Leona was born October 15, 1909, in Marion County, the daughter of Hugh and Mamie Applegate Whitlatch. She was raised in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1927. After high school, she attended Normal Training, and taught school for a few years.

She was united in marriage to Herbert Elliott Cline on April 19, 1931. The couple made their home on a farm in the Olive Chapel area,
then moved to a farm south of Bussey, where they resided until 1972. They then moved to Knoxville, until Herb's death in 1991.

Leona moved to Manly in 1992 to be near her daughter, and they moved to Waterloo in 1994. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers, Victor, Roscoe, Corwin, and Merrill.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Cleair of Waterloo; a son, Joseph of Muscatine; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, and Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church.
