George Jacob Zimmerman,
91, passed from this life into Heaven on Friday, November 6, 2009 at his home in Wylie, TX. George was born to Gay & Della Zimmerman on September 20, 1918 in Lynnville, IA.

He has been joyfully united in Heaven with his parents; his wife of 45 years, Gracie; brothers, Horace, Jerold and Gay Jr; sisters, Thelma Beasley and Elizabeth Fees; granddaughter, Scarlett Grace Streetman and many friends and extended family.

George served his country proudly as a Sergeant in World War II.

He spent more than 4 years overseas participating in the battles and Campaigns of Southern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Algeria, French Moroccan, Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples, Foggia, Rome and Arno.

During his service he earned the Good Conduct medal, Distinct Unit Badge, Croix De Guerre, American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, a Silver Star and three Bronze Stars.

George's life is honored as he lives on in the hearts and lives of those he loved and who dearly loved him, his daughter and son-in-law, Patty McDowell and Harry Streetman of Wills Point, TX; son, Kenneth Zimmerman of Dallas, TX; sister, Margaret Sievers of Des Moines, IA; brother, Leonard Zimmerman of Des Moines, IA; the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Tabitha and Kameron Wainscott of Malvern, AR, Samuel and Sara Streetman of Wills Point, TX; great granddaughter, Kirstyn Wainscott of Malvern, AR; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.

Flowers are welcome but as a tribute to our Dad and Grampy, we ask you to pray every day for the safety and well being of all the men and women who have served and are serving and protecting this great country and our freedoms.

George's life was shared at a viewing and graveside service on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home.
