Alberta (Woolsey) DeGoey, 75, of rural New Sharon, died Monday, November 9, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born May 12, 1934, in Marion County, the daughter of Burdette and Alice Vinson Woolsey. She graduated from Knoxville High School in the class of 1952. Following high school, she worked at a bank in Knoxville.
On April 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Willus “Bill” DeGoey at Leighton. She then worked in the bank at Leighton for a while, and then did upholstery work for 30 years, operating B & D Upholstery in New Sharon until retiring in the late 1980s. Throughout the years, Alberta also helped Bill on the family farm.
She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton, and active as a church
librarian and in ladies’ groups at the church. She enjoyed crocheting; reading; traveling;
and delighted in her family and their activities.
Alberta\’s family includes her husband of over 55 years, Willus “Bill” DeGoey of rural New Sharon; two daughters and their husbands: Diane and Michael Moothart of New Sharon and Luanne and Roberto Azcui of Algonquin, Illinois; a son and his wife, Gary and Cindy DeGoey of New Sharon; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother: Lawrence Woolsey of Knoxville; and a brother-in-law, Mark Milburn of Des Moines.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister: Florence Milburn.
Funeral services for Alberta DeGoey will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton with Pastor Mark Jicinsky officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Leighton.
There will be a Family Prayer Service Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa on Wednesday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Reformed Church’s new addition building fund.
