Donald Eugene “Preacher” Lewis was born on August 3, 1950 in Knoxville, Iowa. He was one of four children born to Charlotte Marion Thompson and Jackie Dale Lewis.

Donald grew up and attended school in Knoxville. He entered the US Navy and served on the USS Hector in Vietnam.

Donald was employed by the VA Medical Centers in Knoxville and Iowa City. He also worked for Geery Construction, S & S Quarry, Don’s Village Pump, Bradia Construction and Touchless Car Wash.

Don enjoyed fishing and hunting. In the spring he always liked to look for mushrooms. Don was also in Dan’s Village Pump pool league. Don was a member of the Baty-Tucker American Legion Post # 168.

Donald Eugene “Preacher” Lewis passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 57 years, 6 months and 9 days.

Preceding Donald in death were his parents.

Those left to mourn his passing are one daughter, Sarah Mertes; one sister and her husband, Lora and Jeff Harris of Richland; two brothers and their wives, David and Donna Lewis of Monroe and Steve and Su Lewis of Columbia as well as many other friends and relatives.

Memorial services were held Monday, February 18, 2008 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Smith officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace”, a CD by the Jordanaires and “Uncloudy Days”, a CD by Jeanne Pruett.

Military honors were provided by John Myers VFW Post #3519, Baty-Tucker American Legion Post #168 and Knoxville AM Vets Post #63.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Lewis may be made to the American Legion.
