Darlene Frances (Rowley) Scott, age 85, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away April 26, 2017, at Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville, Iowa after a long illness.
Visitation for Darlene will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service, on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville. Darlene’s family will be greeting family and friends during this time.
A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Interment will follow services at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.
Darlene’s family would like to invite family and friends to a luncheon at the First United Methodist Church immediately following the interment.
Darlene was born on March 23, 1932, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Irvin Edward and Anna Alice (Van Cleave) Rowley. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1950 and was employed at Marion County ASC office, Marion County Abstract Company, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville.
She was united in marriage to John Warren Scott on March 9, 1952, and to this union, two children were born; Jeffery Warren Scott on August 6, 1955, and Lori Jean Scott on June 6, 1959.
Darlene was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of Rachel Circle, and the United Methodist Women. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a Brownie Scout Leader, and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She also was a money counter for the church for approximately 25 years.
Darlene was a Secretary/Editor of the Iowa Edsel Club, a member of the International Edsel Club, and also a member of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees).
She loved her family dearly and enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, crocheting, tatting, and flowering gardening.
Darlene is survived by her husband, John; son Jeffrey Warren Scott and wife Jill of Fayette, Iowa; daughter Lori Jean and husband John “Skip” Ahern, of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, David Jeffrey Scott and wife Andrea; Susan Shantel Scott; and Lisa Diane Scott Thang and her husband, San Win; two great-granddaughters, Kathryn Elizabeth and Amelia Rose Scott; and one great-grandson, Joshua David Thang; two step-grandchildren, Jeff Ahern and wife Sheri, of Grimes, Iowa; Stacey and husband Samuel Vis of Grand Junction, Colorado; five step-great-grandchildren: Aiden and Jackson Ahern; Addison, Kennedy, and Kadence Vis.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Dean Rowley.
