Funeral services for Cleo F. (VerSteeg) Swartz, 84, of Anoka, Minn., who died June 3, 1998, at Mercy
Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn., were held June 6, 1998, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral
Home in Waverly. Burial was at the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Pastor Nathan
N. Frazee officiated at the services.
Cleo was born November 25, 1913, in Pella, the daughter of Cornelis and Nellie Koopmans
VerSteeg. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1931.
She was united in marriage to Robert H. Swartz on September 12, 1936, in Lancaster,
Mo. The couple lived in various locations throughout Iowa, settling in Waverly in
1963. She moved to Anoka, Minn. in 1997. She was a member of Faith United Methodist
Church in Waverly.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Robert; two brothers, Nickolas
VerSteeg and Cornie VerSteeg; and five sisters, Gertrude VandeKamp, Nellie Croll,
Elizabeth Caulkins, Mary Jane (Marie) VanHemert, and Maude Thornburg.
She is survived by two sons, Fred of Big Rapids, Mich., and Richard of Anoka, Minn.;
a sister, Thelma Popma of Knoxville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
