Memorial services for Forrest Quentin Carruthers, 79, of Columbia, who died June 10, 1998 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held June 14, 1998, at the Columbia Methodist Church.

Military honors were accorded by Baty-Tucker Post #168, American Legion, and John Myers Post #3519, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Rev. Raymond Moore officiated at the services. Music was provided by Geoff Shultz, organist. Honorary bearers were Garth Carruthers, Bob Nichols, Neil Carruthers, Bob McCorkle, Marion Roush, Lee Roberts, Richard Foland, and Don Agan.
Forrest was born April 11, 1919, in Columbia, the son of Dwight Otto and Grace Lennie Hibbets Carruthers. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, and farmed near Columbia, retiring in 1974. He was a longtime member of the Columbia Methodist Church.

He was united in marriage to Theo Margurite Whitlatch on August 21, 1938, in Bussey. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, of Newton; three sons, Frank of Columbia, and Larry and Gary, both of Knoxville; a daughter, Margaret Reed of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Columbia Fire Department and First Responders. Arrangements were made by Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville.
