Funeral services for Alberta Maxine Rees, 86, of Pleasantville, who died Thursday,
Jan. 17, 2002, at Mercy Hospice of Johnston, were held Monday, Jan. 21, at Mason
Funeral Home in Pleasantville. The Rev. Jim Pemble officiated at the services. Interment
was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casketbearers were Craig and Tommy Johns,
Joe and Ryan Goode, Don Peffers, and Clint, Aaron and Kevin Rees.
Alberta was born
on Sept. 19, 1915, in Everest, the daughter of James Stokes and Mary Arvilla (Reeser)
Stokes. She graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1933.
On Oct.
1, 1933, she married James A. Rees at the Methodist Parsonage in Knoxville. After
their marriage, Alberta and James moved to the Rees Century Farm in the Union Township
of Marion County. Alberta kept the books for the farm as well as her many other
duties as a homemaker.
She also worked at Bailey's Donut Shop in Knoxville for a
short time. In 1990, Alberta and James moved to Pleasantville. She was a member
of St. Paul's, United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and a charter
member of the former Union Study Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband, James; three sisters, Olive Leota in infancy, Wilma Cummings and Lynda11
Frost; a brother, Alfred Daniel in infancy; and a nephew, Ralph Frost.
She is survived
by a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Gail Johns of Pleasantville; a son and
daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Rees of Pleasantville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
one great-grandchild; and many other cherished family members and friends. Memorials
may be made to the Pleasantville Fire Department.
