Services for Ruth Vietmeier, 72, of Knoxville, who died July 17, 1986 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held July 21 at the First United Methodist Church.
Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery
Rev. John L Beebout officiated at the services. Music was provided by Geoff Shultz, organist
Pallbearers were Jody Johnston, James Kidder, Ralph Porter, Randall Rose, Tom Tucker, and Eddie Wagner.
Mrs. Vietmeier was born Sept, 27, 1913 in Knoxville, the daughter of Frank L and Maude L Shedden Avery. She was a 1931 graduate of Knoxville High School and a 1935 graduate of Grinnell College.
On Aug. 19, 1937 in Knoxville, she married Merle E. Vietmeier,
A retired elementary music teacher, she had accompanied the Inspirations and the Knoxville Community Chorus, wrote musical reviews for the Knoxville Journal-Express, and was a member of the FIrst United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Morning Circle, Mentor Study Club, Kappa Kappa
Iota, BPW Knoxville Concert Board, and was past president of Chapter M. P.E.O.
She was active in Elderhostel and
received Knoxville's Community Betterment Award in 1984
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961 and her parents.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Vietmeier of Des Moines, Mrs. Waiter (Judith) Schneider of
Bergenfield, and Mrs. James (Susan) Bawden of Blue Grass, five grandchildren, and several cousins, including Alice Applegate of Knoxville.
Memorials have been established to the Knoxville Concert Association and Knoxville Hospice.
