Fredrick Marion Van Ryswyk was born June 29, 1943 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Marion and Frances (Reeves) Van Ryswyk.

He was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1961. Following high school, Fred worked for Charlie Cook driving a truck. He then entered the Air National Guard where he served 6 years. Fred returned to Knoxville and began work for Holmes Oldsmobile, in Des Moines, as a mechanic.

He also served as a deputy for the Marion County Sherriff’s Office. On January 10, 1981 he was united in marriage to Junella Maeschen at St. John Lutheran Church in Melcher. The couple has lived their entire married life in Pleasantville.

Fred was active in the Marion County Sportsman’s Club as a member and officer for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and competition shooting. He also organized and participated in the annual Crappie-Thon.

Fred was a great story-teller and he shared this knowledge at several coffee times in Marion and Warren counties. The greatest joy in his life was his family; he was proud of and cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.

Fred passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 69 years.<img src="VanRyswykFred.jpg" style="vertical-align: top; float: right; padding: 6px 10px 5px 10px;" />

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Tracy.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Junella; children: Terri (Brett) Brummer of Indianola, Jenny (Blake) Hilsabeck of Pleasantville and Ty (Kelly) Van Ryswyk of Edwardsville, IL and 9 grandchildren and many other family members and wonderful friends.

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or to the Iowa Hunters Education Instructor Association.

The family invites relatives and friends to return to St. John Lutheran Church for lunch following the committal service.
