Twylia Maxine (Hunt) Taggart, age 82, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away Monday evening, October 20, 2014, at the Knoxville Rehab Center

Twyla’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, October 24th, at the Winfield Funeral Home, with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow services at the Greenwood Cemetery of rural Knoxville.

Twylia was born February 16, 1932, in Knoxville, the daughter of James Herschel and Myrtle (Folsom) Hunt.

Twylia was raised in the Knoxville and Dallas area. She attended most of her school in Knoxville and graduated from Dallas High School, the Class of 1952.

On August 31, 1952, Twyla was united in marriage to Robert Taggart. They were blessed with two children, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Twyla and Robert shared 62 years of marriage together before her passing.

Twylia and Robert raised their family in Des Moines. Besides raising her family, Twylia also worked as a bookkeeper. Twylia worked in bookkeeping for close to 20 years with a magazine company before working for around 15 years with the Des Moines Salvation Army.

Twylia loved to square dance and ballroom dance and for many years she and Robert were ballroom dancing instructors. She was also a 32-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she held many offices.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Robert Taggart of Knoxville; her children, Vickie (Richard) Taggart and Nancy (Gregg) Houge all of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Rachel (Josh) Payton, Brent Houge, Kyle Houge, and Ashely Houge; and one great-grandchild Kennedy Houge. Twylia is also survived by her two sisters, Viola Mason and Loraine May; and one brother Donald Hunt.

Twylia was preceded in death by her parents James and Myrtle Hunt and her brother Robert Hunt.

A memorial has been established in Twylia’s name for HCI Hospice Care Services of Knoxville. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com. The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Twylia’s family with arrangements.
