Sally Sylvia E. (Riherd) Shaw, 66, the daughter of James Kenneth and Sibyl M. (Donahue) Riherd was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Knoxville. A resident of the Red Rock area through the 8th grade, she graduated from the Monroe Senior High School, Class of 1960. She then moved to the Newton area.

On Jan. 24, 1963, Sally was united in marriage to Monfred John Shaw in Colfax. She
was employed by the Maytag Company, retiring in the late 1980s as a Dryer Inspector.
She also was a Home Health Aid, and was a Red Cross volunteer at the Iowa State
Fair and for the ski patrol.

Sally was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending
time with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, antiques and crocheting.

Sally died on Dec. 5, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Shirley Riherd.

Those left to honor the memory of Sally include her two daughters: Kelly Lynn (Tony)
VerMeer of Pella, and Teresa Jo (Kent) VanVark of Pella; her two sons: Tony Michael
Shaw of Arizona and Eddy Paul (Heidi) Elliott of Rochester, Minn.; her 13 grandchildren:
Jacob, Emma, Maxwell, Lisa, Lindsay, Kelsey, TeeJay, Kendra, Kegan, Benjamin, Brady, Destenie and Paige; her three great-grandchildren; her sister JaneRuth (Randy) Utterback
of Newton; two brothers: Jimmy Riherd of Pella and Phillip (Barbara) Riherd of Bangor,
Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be designated in Sally’s name or to the Hospice of Jasper County.
Sally Shaw Private Family Funeral services for Sally, were held Dec. 9, 2008, entrusted
to the Pence — Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
