Douglas Joseph Reidel, 49, of Knoxville died of a brain tumor Thursday at Knoxville
Area Community Hospital.

Private memorial services have already been held. The creamains
will be buried at sea with navy rites. Mr. Reidel was born in Oskaloosa and had
lived in Knoxville, as a youth. He served 25 years in the Navy and was stationed
in San Diego, Guam and the Philippines. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and
Persian Gulf War. He returned to Knoxville after retiring in 1993.

Survivors include
a son, Richard of Knoxville; a stepdaughter, Michelle Santiago; a sister, Veronica
Glass of Des Moines; and two grandchildren. Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville is
handling arrangements.

Navy honors.

Douglas was born October 5, 1949, in Oskaloosa, the son of Leona May
Schluck and Mahlon Albert Reidel. He was raised in Knoxville and graduated from
Knoxville High School in 1967. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served 25 years.
He was stationed in San Diego, Calif., as well as Guam and the Philippines. He served
during Vietnam, the Persian Gulf Crisis, and Desert Storm. He retired in 1993, and
returned to Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael;
and a brother, Greg.
