Robert Lee Queener was born on November 29, 1931, in St. Charles, Virginia, the son of Andrew Costo and Anna Mae (Smith) Queener. He came from a large family, composed of 11 siblings.

Robert grew up in Knoxville. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1949 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953.

Robert lived in Torrance, California for a time, but had lived in Des Moines most of his adult life. He had been a truck driver for Manatts Corporation, and also was a talented house remodeler and auto mechanic. Robert enjoyed racing cars, bowling, fishing, and gardening.

Robert passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk at the age of 81 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Teresa Cannon, Danny Queener (Dorine), Tammy (Raymond) Ahumada, and Randy (Missy) Queener, all of California; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial with military honors will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

A visitation will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with family present from 1 to 2 p.m.
