Cheryl Lee Boothe, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Newton, on February 14, 2024.

Daughter of Ben Clifford Piper and Arlene Helen Eberhart, Cheryl was born March 18, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Cheryl was a woman who wore many hats in her lifetime. After graduating from Knoxville High School with the class of 1964, she went on to work for the state offices in Des Moines, the Newton News, Newton Manufacturing, Knoxville Christian Schools, and the Newton Public Library until her retirement in 2013.

On February 12, 1966, less than two years after her graduation, Cheryl joined hands in marriage with Darrell K. Boothe in Knoxville, Iowa. The two of them shared 57 years until Darrell’s passing just 5 months ago in September.

They were members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton for many years and together they had a son, Darrell Keith Boothe Jr. who was at her side for her last days.

Cheryl enjoyed anything crafty, from scrapbooking, crocheting, and sewing, to baking wedding cakes and even tailoring some wedding dresses. When she wasn’t crafting, she enjoyed playing cards or other board games, doing puzzles, and reading. Cheryl had a passion for singing, and many remember her soprano voice fondly.

Cheryl is survived by her son, Darrell K. Boothe Jr., of Newton; her four grandchildren: Eric (Lisa) Boothe, Jonathan (Brett) Boothe, Jacob Boothe, and Emily Boothe; brothers George Roush, Keith (Dawn) Piper, and Tood (Christy) Piper; sister, Laura (Roy) DeVos; and Stepmother, Delores Piper.Cheryl Piper
