Zella Mae (McDonald) Brown was born July 21, 1931, in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Henry Roy and Ethel (Vander Linden) McDonald.
She was raised on the family farm south of Knoxville and attended country school, eventually graduating in 1951 from Knoxville High School.
Zella worked in a boot factory in the state of Maryland for a short time. She then worked at Continental Overall Factory in Knoxville.
For most of her life, Zella provided daycare at her home in Attica and was the janitor at the Attica United Methodist Church.
She loved her daycare kids and always made sure they were safe and happy.
Zella taught V.B.S., Sunday School, and led the singing for Sunday School. For over 20 years she brought Kool-Aid and cookies to the church.
For 40 years she mowed, scooped snow, and cleaned the church.
Zella passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at her home, in Attica, at the age of 91 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ethel McDonald, and siblings: Raymond, Walter, T.L., Frank, Jr., Johnny, Isaac, Mary Peek, and Ruby Dop.
Those left to cherish Zella’s memory include her daughter, Diane Brown (Henry McCall), numerous nieces, nephews, generations of daycare and Sunday School kids,
and many other family members and friends.
