Worth Marvin “Junior” Rankin was born August 16, 1924, in Marion County, Iowa the son of Worth Linford Rankin and Irma Umbra (Rose) Rankin.

He was raised in the Knoxville area and attended Attica grade schools. He graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1941. Following high school, Junior farmed with his parents and eventually started his own operation.

On March 4, 1949, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Maxine Kimler at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

The couple moved to a farm in the Pinchey neighborhood of Pleasantville and lived there the rest of their lives. Worth was always very active in community and farm organizations.

He was a member of the Marion County Cattleman’s Association, the Marion County Corn & Soybean Association, the Marion County Shorthorn Association, and St. Paul’s
United Methodist Church.

He was a board member of the Farm Bureau, where he served as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer.
Worth was also a board member of Tri-County Farm service for 9 years and served on the Pleasantville School Board. He was Band Parent President and was a 4-H leader.

Worth loved being a farmer and working the land. His family was also very important to him and he enjoyed his role as husband, father, and grandfather.
Worth also liked his golden retriever dogs.

Worth passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 27 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Myrtle on March 6, 2011.

Those left to mourn Worth’s passing include his son, Larry (Lori) of Pleasantville, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many
other family members and friends.

may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Central Iowa.

The family invites relatives and friends to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for lunch following the committal service.
