Walter Ray Neal, 76, of Council Bluffs died Aug. 19, 2004 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born April 7, 1928, in Knoxville to Archie Millroy Neal (1892 – 1969) and Lucille Kerr Neal (1898 – 1989). He graduated in 1946 from Knoxville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked for Iowa Power & Light as an equipment operator after 42 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Mr. Neal and his wife, Janet (Whitbeck), were married 46 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Everett Keith; (1923 – 2002) and daughter, Pamela Neal.

Survivors in addition to his wife include daughters, Mary Carpenter of North Ft. Myers, Fla., Judith Neal of Council Bluffs and Luanne Autera and husband, Michael, of Council Bluffs; son, Scott, and wife, Stacy, of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Virginia Morris and husband, Marion, of Des Moines; brothers, Donald Neal and wife, Janice, of Des Moines and Robert Neal and wife, Barbara, of Des Moines.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. R. Ronald Rosenkaimer of Faith Lutheran Church officiating.

Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 2. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
