Services for Wallace James Darnell (Barney) Darnell, 66, of Knoxville, who died of a heart ailment Saturday, June 16, 1990, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held June 19 at the First United Methodist Church. Evans-McCleery Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.
Rev. K. Wayne Hoehn officiated at the services. Music was provided by Linda Gehling, organist, and Stephanie Young, soloist.

Pallbearers were Blair Applegate, Tom Bailey, Wally Hollingsworth, Charlie Brooks, Larry Carruthers, and Roy Mavin. Honorary bearers were Conrad Cunningham, Dick Dishman, Earl Evinger Beryl Hall, Jay Love, Stan Metcalf, Ken Ray, Don Smith, Cleo Cooney, Harvey Elliott, Dwight Glover, Clyde Kirkwood, Arnold Meindertsma, Tom Pherigo, Ben Smith, Bob Steele, and the members of the Knoxville Rural Fire Department, the Knoxville City Fire Department, and the Marion County Fairboard.

Mr. Darnell was born June 22, 1923, in Pershing, the son of Clyde C. and Hallie Applegate Darnell.

He graduated from Knoxville High School.

On Dec. 25, 1943, at Knoxville, he married Goldie Worley.
He was the owner of Darnell Oil Company.

He was a 25-year member of the Knoxville City and Rural Fire Departments, serving as fire chief for two years. He was currently a member of the Marion County Fair Board Association and the Knoxville Lions Club. He was also a member Of the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, J.O. and Worth.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda Hollingshead of Potosi, Mo., and Dixie Schlepphorst
of Urbandale; three sons, Don of
Norwalk and Dick and Jim, both of Knoxville; 10
grandchildren two sisters Winifred Currie of Sunnyvale, Calif. and Irma Thorsen of Seminole Fla; and one brother, Dick Darnell of Durham, N.C.

Memorials have been established for the Knoxville Lions Club Knoxville City and Rural Departments.
