Violet Louise (VanderVeer) Johnson, age 83, of Harvey, Iowa passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Grove City, Ohio, where she had resided since March 2017.
Visitation and funeral service for Vi will be Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Assembly of God Church in Harvey, Iowa. Visitation will commence at 9:30 A.M. and the funeral service officiated by Pastor Mike Miller at 11:30. Burial will follow the service at Breckenridge Cemetery.
Vi was born February 17, 1934, on the island near Harvey, Iowa to Engle Vander Veer and Faye Deloris Beaver. Although Vi lived most of her life in Iowa, she also lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Vi married Donald Wayne Johnson on July 2, 1971. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage before Don’s passing in March 1998.
Vi had many interests, she enjoyed crafts, bowling, dominos, riding on the golf cart, playing cards, and eating crappie and morel mushrooms, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family and her dog Buffy.
Vi was also a member of the Harvey Assembly of God Church. She had great love and respect for God and her church, with a Bible always at her side. She remained very active with her church throughout her life and had great pride in the friends that she made through the church.
Vi will be missed by her four daughters; Teri Scott of Texas, Roxy (Robert) Garton of Texas, Kim (Sam) Moore of Ohio, and Carole Twyman of Minnesota; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Vi is also survived by her siblings; Lavon Lanphier, Jim (Tammy) Vander Veer, Jack (Karen) Vander Veer, Wayne (Betty) Vander Veer, Engle (Sharon) Vander Veer Jr., Patty (Denny) Williams, Paul (Chris) Vander Veer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vi is preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Engle Vander Veer and step-mother Hazel; mother, Faye Miller; one brother, LaRoy Vander Veer; one sister, Thelma June McConaughey; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Vander Veer, and Patricia Vander Veer.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Vi’s name to the Harvey Assembly of God Church.
