Timothy Greg Sloan, known to most as Tim, died on June 4, 2010, at his home in Johnstown,
CO.
Tim was repairing his car when a jack gave way and he was trapped and unable
to breathe. Tim’s family believes that his passing was swift. Tim believed that
Jesus was his Savior and he is now resting at peace with his Heavenly Father.
Born
on December 12, 1958, in Clinton, IA, he lived in Clinton, Calmar, and Pella, IA,
before moving to Knoxville, IA with his family when he was in the 5th grade. He
lived in Knoxville until 1990, when he moved to the Loveland, CO and remained in
that area until his passing.
Surviving are his daughter, Allison Sloan and her son,
Preston Followill of Knoxville, IA; step-daughter, Erin (Holmes) Clark and husband
Brian and their son Jackson; parents, Marvin and Jane (McCauley) Sloan of Knoxville;
brother Michael Sloan and his daughters, Madison and Taylor Sloan of Loveland, CO;
sister Sandy (Sloan) Barker and husband, Mahlon Barker, and their sons, Christopher,
Jacob, Matthew, and Benjamin Barker of Dallas Center, IA; brother Patrick and Ellen
(Butler) Sloan of Laurel, IA and his children, Scott, Lee, and Emily Sloan of Knoxville,
IA; and his constant companion and beloved Weimaraner, Hawkeye.
Tim was preceded
in death by his grandparents, Clare and Joye (Scarbrough) McCauley and Charles and
Mae (Sandeen) Sloan, all of Monroe, IA. Tim graduated from Knoxville High School
in 1977 where he was an avid athlete. His favorite sport was football, playing offense,
defense, place kicker, and punter. He was a 1st Team All-State football player and
was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl. He still holds many athletic records at
Knoxville.
Tim attended Simpson College for a time and was named the Most Valuable
Freshman Athlete there. Tim attended Indian Hills Community College from 1982-84
and received an A.A.S. in Industrial Arts/Machinist.
He worked at 3M in Knoxville
as a Coater/Treator Operator, Woodward Governor Co. in Ft. Collins, CO as a Rotational
Finish Cell Machinist, Limited Production Machinist, Lathe Machinist, and Certified
Quality Operator Inspector; and most recently at Owens-Illinois in Windsor, CO as
a Mold Repair Technician.
Tim took great pride in his work and performance in every
area of his life and always strived to be the best he could possibly be. As an adult,
Tim remained very active, playing golf, skiing, motorcycling, bicycling, and hiking.
He was an active member of Crossroads Church in Loveland. Most of all, Tim loved
his family. He called his parents regularly to talk, was best friends with his older
brother, Mike, and always expressed his love when talking to his family.
His dog,
Hawkeye, went everywhere that Tim could take him along, and they were true pals.
Tim had recently undergone spinal fusion surgery to relieve the debilitating pain
he had suffered for years. He was in the process of moving back to Iowa so that
he could be close to his daughter, Allison, and his grandson, Preston. He was looking
forward to being a larger part in their lives.
A memorial service will be held in
Knoxville, IA, on Saturday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Honorary
Pall Bearers are Mike Sloan, Cal Stephens, Dan Gardner, Alex Job, Jay Smith, Charlie
Stevens, Jon Voyce, and Joel Betterton. The service will be followed by a luncheon
and a time for family and friends to visit with one another.
The burial of Tim’s
cremains will take place that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Silent City Cemetery in
Monroe, IA. Pastor Joel Picard will officiate. Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville
is handling the arrangements. Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland was of great assistance.
A celebration of life service will be held in Loveland, CO, on Saturday, June 26,
at 11:00 a.m. at the acreage of Mike Sloan, 50
