Funeral services for Thurlene Marie (Agan) Shilling, 91, of Knoxville, who died Monday,
May 26, 2003, at the home of her son, Gary, will be held Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m.,
at Evans McCleery Funeral Home. Rev. Peter J. Peterson will officiate at the services.
Katie Davis will be a soloist. The interment will be at Gosport Cemetery in Marion County.
Casket bearers will be Jeff Shilling, Rick Shilling, Kyle Shilling, Matt Shilling,
Andy Turner, and Chris Turner. Honorary bearers will be Rodney L. Shilling and Chrystie
Marie Norton.
Thurlene was born on December 1, 1911, in Marion County, the daughter
of Clarence S. and Ella (Hulgan) Agan. She graduated from Knoxville High School
in 1930 and taught in country schools for four years.
She married Raymond L. Shilling
on May 9, 1936, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in Marion County
for many years before moving to Knoxville in 1977.
Thurlene was a devoted mother
and homemaker in addition to helping her husband on the farm. She especially enjoyed
reading, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. For the past several
years she has lived at the home of her son, Gary.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband; two sisters, Maxine Agan and Margaret Davis; two brothers,
Marvin and Donavan; a grandson, Rodney L. Shilling; and one great-granddaughter,
Chrystie Marie Norton. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Nancy and
Jim Turner of Williamsburg; four sons, Gary and wife Judy, Donald and wife Linda, Tom and wife Sue, all of Knoxville, and Richard of Mitchellville; 17 grandchildren;
numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many other
relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or
Chrystie Norton Scholarship at Knoxville High School. Arrangements were made by
Evans-McCleery Funeral Home.
