Thomas Jennings Young, 73, of the 1900 block of Elm Circle in West Des Moines died of cancer Friday, October 12, 2001, at this home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Indianola, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer.
Mr. Young was born May 5, 1928, in Colfax and had lived in Indianola before moving to West Des Moines seven years ago. He was a retired actuarial vice president for Equitable of Iowa, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of American Contract Bridge League. He enjoyed golfing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; two sons, Thomas of Warwick, R.I. and Mark of Indianola; a daughter, Karen Young-Urick of Prophetstown, Ill; a sister, Marlys McMeans of Warner-Robins, Ga; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.today at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials contributions may be made to his church, Jordan Creek United Methodist Church of Hospice of Central Iowa.
