Thomas Lee Pope, 48, of Polk City died of cancer Thursday at Iowa Methodist Medical
Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m Monday at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic
Church in Ankeny, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Pope was born in Knoxville, May 6, 1943, son of James Forrest and Josephine (Jones)
Pope and lived in Marion County.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Frost March 2, 1963, and
moved to Des Moines in 1974. In 1986 he moved to Polk City, where he remained until his death.
He was a deputy sheriff and detective with the Polk County Sheriff's
Department and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the National
Sheriffs Association and Immaculate Heart Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, four daughters, Paula Terry of Polk City, Peggy
Pope and Michele Pope, both of Grinnell, and Jolela Kimber of Ankeny, a son Eric
of Karisuhe, Germany, two brothers, Vance Crosby of Lacona and Jim Pope of Melcher, two sisters Mary Kading of Pleasantville and Marietta Weits of Melcher, and four grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral
Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will
be held at 6:30 p.m.
