Thelma Ethyl (Agan) Paulding was born on February 6, 1912, in Marion County the daughter of George H. and Edna N. (Croy) Agan.
On November 11, 1933, Thelma was united in marriage to James W. Paulding in Knoxville, Iowa. Thelma began teaching in rural schools when she was eighteen years old, first in Marion County and then at the Cotter School for a total of twenty years.
Thelma graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a bachelor’s degree. She was a past member of the N.E.A. and Eastern Star. Thelma was known as a wonderful homemaker, teacher, quilter, and gardener.
Thelma will be dearly missed by her husband, James of Conesville; two sons, James E. Paulding and his wife, Helga of Parker, Colorado, and Thomas L. Paulding and his wife, Mary Frances of Hillsboro, Illinois; one daughter, Barbara J. Moody and her husband, Kirk of Russell, Iowa; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Robert Agan of Davenport.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Buster, Don, and John; and one sister, Dana Bolton.
