Ted Lee Vanderwilt, 24, son of Kenneth Clark Vanderwilt b. Sept 11, 1904 d. Feb 8, 1991 and Mary Helen Bucklew b.Mar 28, 1909, was killed in the crash of an airplane which he was flying alone near Wausau, Wis., Sunday morning, July 18,1965.

Information received by the Knoxville Police Department from the Marathon County sheriff of Wausau indicated that Vanderwilt had rented a single-engine plane at a Hopkins, Minn., airport that morning with flight plans showing Milwaukee as his destination.

The crash occurred in a wooded area on a farm about 7 miles west of Wausau. Friends here said that he had spoken to them of his intention of visiting an uncle, Joe Bucklew, at Woodruff, about 60 miles north of Wausau. He had been taking flying instruction for some time.

Vanderwilt, a graduate of the Knoxville High School Class of 1959, has been studying radio and television at a school at Minneapolis, Minn., since May. He also attended Drake University and Parsons College and had been employed at a ski lodge at Aspen, Colo.

He is also survived by a sister, Jane (Dwayne) Crozier of Sioux City.
