Ted Lee Dykstra, age 69, of Knoxville passed away Thursday evening, November 29,
2012 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital Emergency Room of Knoxville, Iowa.

Ted was born on September 1, 1943 in Knoxville to Leo Clark and Doris Mae (Porter)
Dykstra. He was raised with his sister Patricia on the family farm near Knoxville.

During school Ted was very active in sports and music. He had a wonderful voice
and was selected to the high school all state choir. He was a graduate of Knoxville
High School, Class of 1961. After high school Ted attended the University of Iowa
for a short time and made the football team. He also attended Grandview and played
on their baseball team for one season.

Ted came back to Knoxville from college and began farming with his father. Ted went
to auctioneer school. Ted farmed and was an auctioneer for Bingley Sale Barn for
many years, until 1984 when he built and began the Bingley-Dykstra Sale Barn. Ted
owned and operated the sale barn for many years before selling his operation and
then auctioneering farm and household auctions.

Ted enjoyed farming all his life, he enjoyed fishing, flying his airplane and was
a wonderful singer. He sang in men’s quartets and in the First United Methodist
Church Choir, of which he was a member.

Ted and Karon Rae Durham were united in marriage on August 19, 1962. They were blessed
with four children: Ted Lee II, Tammy, Todd, and Tim. Ted and Karon later divorced.

On October 11, 2003 Ted married Mary Dee Butterfield at the First United Methodist
Church of Knoxville. Ted and Mary Dee shared nine years of marriage before Ted’s
passing.

Ted is survived by his wife Mary Dee Dykstra of Knoxville; Ted’s four children:
Ted Lee Dykstra II and wife Shannon of Pella, Tammy Laird and husband Scott of Dodge
City, KS, Todd Dykstra and wife Melanie of Voorheesville, NY, and Dr. Tim Dykstra
and wife Christy of Pella; and 17 grandchildren.

Mary Dee’s three children Connie Egger and husband Dean of Clive, Janice Grant and
husband John of Birmingham, AL, and Barbara George and husband Matt of Urbandale;
and her 4 grandchildren. Ted is also survived by his mother Doris Dykstra of Knoxville
and his sister Patricia Haning and husband John of Knoxville.

Ted was preceded in death by his father Leo Dykstra.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, at the First
United Methodist Church of Knoxville, with Pastors Lane Riggle and Elizabeth Hadler
officiating. Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery of Knoxville.

Visitation for Ted will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2,
at the Winfield Funeral Home. Ted’s family will be present from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial in Ted’s memory will be established at a later date. Condolences may
