Susan Eileen Poffenberger, age 69, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Lyle and Marjorie (Watkins) Harvey on September 15, 1946 in Knoxville, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Knoxville High School and later received her Nursing Degree.
On June 19, 1965, Susan was united in marriage to James Lee Poffenberger in Missouri. She has worked many years as a Nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville and was a member of the First United Methodist Church also in Centerville.
Susan was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James Poffenberger on June 8, 2006; her son, Charles “Chip” Poffenberger on February 25, 1995; and a brother, Michael Harvey.
She is survived by: her sister, Claudia South and her husband, Larry of Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held two hours before services at the funeral home.
