Steven Gene Dexter was born on July 30. 1949 in Leon, Iowa. He was the son of Jerrie Lemon and Frederick Foster Dexter.

Steve was one of four children in the family. He attended school in Knoxville.

On April 28. 1968 he was united in marriage to Lynn Vancenbrock. To this union, two daughters were born.

Steve worked for several years at Maytag in Newton before moving to Kansas where he worked in an ammunition factory.

He had lived in Kansas for the last 15 years. Steve had a special love for his grandchildren and enjoyed being with them.

He spent much of his spare time collecting and reading books as well as listening to country music.

Steve passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 52 years, 3 months and 22 days.

Funeral services for Steven Gene Dexter were held on Monday, November 26, at Williams Funeral Home. Rev. Craig Bex officiated at the services. Music was provided by Janet Westberg, organist, and Jim Kidder, vocalist.

The interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Casketbearers were Leo Cowman, Don Green, Matt, and Nathan Rothfus, and Bob and Justin Sager. Honorary casket bearers were Aaron and Emily Alexander, Holly and Scott Bingham, and Erica Showers.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Jerrie Dexter of Knoxville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gena and David Bingham of Knoxville and Lisa and Chuck Alexander of Knoxville; five grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Diane Dexter of Knoxville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Bob Sager of Greenville, Texas and Susan and Larry Turnbough of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a special friend, Bess McCaulsand; as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to his family.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
