Steven Douglas Long was born on June 29, 1951, in Knoxville Iowa, to Leonard “Bid” and Wilda (Mallory)Long. 

Steven attended and graduated from Knoxville High School, class of 1969.

He was very athletic in high school. He lettered four years in golf, two years in football, and two years in basketball.

After high school, Steve attended and graduated from Central College, class of 1973.
He received his teaching degree and coaching certificates. He taught science courses
and coached basketball and golf in Vinton, then Urbandale, and most of his teaching
and coaching career was in Indianola.

Steve enjoyed sports all his life. He won the Pine Knolls Club Championship six times.

Steve passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines
at the age of 58 years, 1 month, and 4 days. He died as a result of a one-vehicle
accident, north of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his father Leonard “Bid” Long.

Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Wilda Long of Knoxville; his sister,
Doris Maltby (Jim) of Indianola; his brother, Jim Long (Betty) of Knoxville; and his nieces and nephews, Kevin Long, Robin Delury (Chris), Craig Maltby (Jan), Kent Maltby (Mary), and Sara Opie (Doug).

Steve is also survived by great nieces and nephews, Celia and Harper Delury, Jill
and Erin Maltby, Reed Long, Joseph Maltby, Ross Opie, and Miles Maltby.
