Steve Grant Emerson Knoxville, Iowa Steve Grant Emerson was born on November 24,
1965 in Knoxville, Iowa. He was the son of Pat Ann DeWitt and Joe Lee Emerson. Steve
has lived in Knoxville all his life. He graduated from Knoxville High School in
1984.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and rock hunting. He liked
cars and motorcycles. Steve was the type of person that if he worked on your car
and you never paid him, he would not come knocking down your door to collect. The
most important part of Steve’s life was the time he spent with his children.

Steve Emerson died of multiple gunshot wounds Thursday, October 24, 2002, near Knoxville, IA, at the age of 36 years and 11 months. The death has been ruled a homicide.

Steve was preceded in death by a son, Devan, and grandparents:
Grant and Opal DeWitt, Pearly and Vivian Robuck and Fred Emerson.

He is survived
by two sons: Tyler and Joseph Emerson of Knoxville, Iowa; a father and step-mother,
Joe and Doris Emerson of Colfax, Iowa; a mother, Pat Jessip of Knoxville, Iowa;
two brothers: John and his wife, Pam Emerson, of Knoxville, Iowa, and Mike Emerson
of Knoxville, Iowa; a grandmother, Irene Emerson of Des Moines, Iowa; a niece, Amy
Sylvester of Des Moines, Iowa; two aunts and uncles: Betty and Verlan DeZwarte of
Chariton, Iowa, and Ben and Sharon Smith of Pella, Iowa; a great aunt, Eliza Crozier
of Knoxville, Iowa; a stepfather, Bob Jessip of Knoxville; a stepbrother, Steve
Oswalt of Colfax, Iowa and two stepsisters: Sherrie Lewis and Kris Smith, both of
Colfax.

Funeral services for Steve Grant Emerson were held on Monday, October 28,
2002, at 2:30 PM at Williams Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Roozeboom and Bruce Rietveld
officiated at the service. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.
Casket bearers for the service included: Jack Danner, Jeff Kingery, Dave Dwigans,
Scott McRoberts, John Ryan and Kevin Sherlock.

Honorary casket bearers for the service included: Dwight Bachman, Rance Bachman, Ron Bachman, Ryal Bachman, Joseph Emerson,
Tyler Emerson, Amy Jo Sylvester. Musical selections included “Patience” by Guns-n-
Roses, “Ride On” by ACDC and “Slow Ride” by Foghat. Friends called after 11:00 AM
on Sunday, October 27, 2002, at Williams Funeral Home.

The family was present to
greet friends between 3:00 and 5:00 Sunday afternoon. Memorial Contributions may
be given in the memory of Steve to his children: Tyler and Joseph. Williams Funeral
Home handled arrangements.
