Lewis Stanton Metcalf was born December 23, 1926 in Marion County the son of William “Ellis” Metcalf and Sarah “June” (Hanna) Metcalf.
As a boy, Stanton attended North Flagler School, eventually graduating from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1944.
On June 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Wing in Knoxville. The couple has lived at Rural Route 3 and farmed their entire married life. In later years, they wintered at their home in Pine Island, Florida.
Stanton was active in promoting Marion County and agriculture all his life. He served 18 years on the Marion County Fairboard, was a District Soil Commissioner, and a Master Hog Farmer. In 2000 the family farm was recognized as a Century Farm at the Iowa State Fair, something he took great pride in as the entire family participated in the award.
He was also a member of the Flying Farmers of Iowa. Stanton was also a league bowler for many years. He enjoyed fishing with the family in Canada, The Iowa State Fair, and in recent years he and Betty enjoyed motorcycling, gardening, and wintering in Florida.
Stanton passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 86 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryne Metcalf Visser; infant son, Michael Alan; nephews, Carroll and Bruce Visser and his son-in-law, Denny Ackley.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Betty; children: Karen Metcalf Ackley of Knoxville, Nancy Metcalf McCollum (Wrede) of Olathe, Kansas, and Brian Metcalf (Lisa) of Pella; niece, Jeneanne (Nancy) Visser; 10 grandchildren: Denise (Matt) Yaske, Mindy Wood, Stephanie (Scott) Arnold, Monica (Jeff) Musolf, Bradley (Michelle) McCollum, Ben (Kristina) McCollum, Whitney (Tyler) Cowman, Sophie (Chip) Phillips, Isabel Metcalf and Bronwyn Metcalf; 10 great-grandchildren: Lanie Kampert, Maxwell Kampert, Sarah Yaske, Abby Yaske, Jack, Lola, Kayla, and Isaac McCollum, Rhemy Cowman and Abraham Kampert and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the memorial service at the First United Methodist Church.

Private family committal will be held following the luncheon.
The family invites relatives and friends to the basement of the First United Methodist Church for lunch following the memorial service.
