Shirley Jean Kingery was born June 2, 1946 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Lloyd and Irma (Roff) Karr.

She graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1964.  On August 29, 1964 Shirley was united in marriage to Richard Carroll Kingery at the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Iowa.

The couple first made their home in Chariton.  They later moved to Columbia and farmed.

In 1972 Shirley and Richard  moved to their current farm east of Pleasantville,  Shirley was a longtime employee of the Pleasantville State Bank

prior to her retirement in August of 2014.

Shirley was a dedicated farm wife, helping with the harvest and farrowing pigs.

Family trips to Canada were a regular event for Shirley and her family. Her best catch was a 21lb Northern.  She also enjoyed camping at Robert’s Creek and the Marion County Fair.

She and Richard attended their grandchildren’s  sports and other events.  She took particular pride in flower gardening and taking care of her home.

Shirley was a former member and proud supporter of the Pleasantville Booster Club, Union Study Club and 4-H.  She had also served as Union Township Clerk.

Shirley passed away Thursday , January 15, 2026 at  Iowa Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines, at the  age of 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Irma and her husband Richard.

Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory include her children;:Diane (Rick) Rowley of Bussey, Rick (Deb) Kingery  of Pleasant Hill, Kathi (Brian) Thompson of Indianola, Renae (Scott) Girdler of Pleasantville and  Jolly of Pleasantville Rebecca (Jeremy) Jolly of Pleasantville;
