Shelby Jean (VandeKamp) Caley/Mikkelson, 65, went to be with the Lord, October 3, 2011, at Salina Regional Hospital.

Shelby was born September 23, 1946 at Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Velta Vandekamp.

She was a long-time resident of Kansas. Shelby touched the lives of many. She owned a ceramic shop in Leonardville, during the 1970's. After that she worked in home care. She also worked at Roetto's in Riley.

Shelby enjoyed teaching ceramic classes, she also taught many friends how to crochet.

She loved to spread the Christmas spirit each year by making candy. She was a member of the Eagles #3650 Auxiliary.

Shelby met the love of her life, Merlin Mikkelson, in 1997. They briefly lived in Colorado before moving to Miltonvale in 1999 to retire.

They raised their grandson Zayed and enjoyed life together. Shelby was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Velta (Burt) Vandekamp; three sisters, Dixie Lee, Donna Lou Vandekamp and Shirley Hull; A brother, John Vandekamp; three step-children, Sheryl Kush, Leroy Mikkelson and Arlan Mikkelson.

She is survived by her love, Merlin Mikkelson; her children, Dean Binns and Dory Caley both of Clay Center, Jay (Kim) Caley of Riley, Deanna (Jason) Robinson of Wakefield, Brent (Erin) Mikkelson of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, John and David Binns, Megan, Raeleigh and Maekenna
Wyrick, Dixie Robinson and Zayed Awan; Two sisters, Sheila Heck of Melcher, Iowa and Sheryl (Bill) Hunt of Knoxville, Iowa.

Shelby was a loving wife and mother, she had many friends and will be missed.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 14, at the Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale. A lunch will follow the service at the church.

Graveside services will be at a later date for the family.
Burial will be in the Miltonvale Cemetery.
