Sharon LaVonne (Humphrey) Ethell, was born on March 12, 1941, in Albia, Iowa to Claude George and Hazel (Hill) Humphrey.
Sharon was raised in Knoxville, Iowa, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1959 and from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1963.
In August 1975, she and Harold Edward Ethell were united in marriage and blended their families, her sons, Raymond and Donald Denney, and his children, Steven, Scott, and Sharon Ethell.
Sharon worked for 33 years for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville as an administrative dietitian, an occupation she never really gave up. She enjoyed reading mystery books, flower gardening, traveling, and playing cards with Harold.
Harold passed away on November 20, 2012. Sharon particularly enjoyed making things to give away, such as jams, jellies, and pickles. and judging 4-H projects at various county fairs. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, NAFRE (National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, and helped at the local food pantry.
Sharon passed away on July 8, 2023, at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville of Leukemia, at the age of 82 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Ethell, her stepdaughter, Sharon E. Ethell, her parents, Claude and Hazel Humphrey, and her brother, David Humphrey.
Sharon is survived by her two sons: Raymond Denney of Mill Creek, Washington, and Donald Denney of Knoxville, and two step-sons, Steven Ethell and his wife, Vicky and Scott Ethell all of Knoxville. She leaves 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, an adopted grandson, Karson Compton; 
one brother, Bob Humphrey, and his wife, Emmy, of Quitner, Kansas, two nieces and four grand-nieces, and a grand-nephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 11:00 am First Baptist Church, Knoxville, Iowa
Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with a luncheon following the services.
Memorial contributions are preferred for the Iowa Food Bank.
