Sharon Elaine Ethell, age 63, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away at her residence on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023.

Sharon’s wishes were to be cremated with no services planned. A private family burial will be held at Coal Ridge Cemetery in rural Knoxville at a later date.

Sharon was born on August 4, 1959, to Harold and Hazel (Goemaat) Ethell in Knoxville. Sharon was raised in Knoxville with her brothers and attended Knoxville High School, Class of 1978. She later received her G.E.D. in 1981.

In July of 1982 Sharon and Mark Sweitzer were united in marriage. They shared 15 years of marriage together before divorcing and they were blessed with two children Shane and Ryan.

Sharon worked locally around Knoxville all her life. She worked in the Hy-Vee Bakery, the vet clinic, the racetrack, and Medicap. She enjoyed volunteering at the humane society, kayaking, walking her dog, sprint car racing, and especially her friends and family.

Sharon is survived by her two sons, Shane Sweitzer and his wife Katie and Ryan Sweitzer; her four grandchildren, Adam, Isaac, Samuel, and Georgia.  Sharon EthellSharon is also survived by her stepmother Sharon L. Ethell; two brothers, Steve Ethell and his wife Vicky and Scott Ethell; two stepbrothers, Ray Denney and Don Denney; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Hazell (Goemaat) Ethell.

Memorials may be given in Sharon’s memory to her family or to the Marion County Humane Society.

The Winfield Funeral Home is assisting Sharon’s family with her wishes.
