Sally Ann (Kissinger) Caulkins was born September 6, 1945 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Foster and Florence (Stewart) Kissinger.
She graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 1963. Sally then worked for the Iowa State Health Department in Des Moines.
On January 29, 1966, she was united in marriage to Wendell Caulkins at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. To this union, three children were born: Todd, Terri, and Nicole.
The couple has always lived on their farm north of Beech. Sally stayed home with the children until they were older and then started a floral business in Pleasantville. She owned and operated The Whole Bloomin’ Thing for three years before taking a job at Schmaltz’s Health Mart in Knoxville. Sally worked for Schmaltz for 17 years and then worked for Knoxville Chiropractic for 11 years prior to retirement.
Sally was a very creative person, she had a passion for quilting and enjoyed making crafts and designing floral arrangements. She also liked the challenge of a difficult puzzle and was a league bowler. Sally was active in the Pleasantville Christian Church’s youth and sewing groups. She also enjoyed traveling and collecting thimbles from all her destinations. Sally was a devoted grandmother and she and Wendell attended all the grandchildren’s activities.
Sally passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Taylor House, in Des Moines, at the age of 71 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-sister, Glendora Woods, and her brother-in-law, Arthur Churchill.
Those left to cherish Sally’s memory include her husband, Wendell; children: Todd, Terri “Steve” Boggess, and Nicole “Joe” Sample; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings: Linda Gotta, Nancy Hall, and her twin sister, Susan Churchill and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Sally Caulkins, age 71 of Pleasantville, will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Taylor House or to the Pleasantville Christian Church.
