Ruth Irma Statzell

92, Evergreen, Co., passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Elk Run Assisted Living.
Ruth was born on a farm August 17, 1924, to James O. and Ollie M. Reed in Knoxville, Iowa. When Ruth was six years old she discovered a fire in their attic and help was summoned. She was credited with saving the family farm house.
Ruth attended Simpson College in Pella, Iowa completing two years. Her education was interrupted by the advent of World War II.
Following the war Ruth married Robert W. Statzell. She had two sons James D. (Debra) Statzell of Crossville, Tn. and Thomas R. (Gail) Statzell of Evergreen, Co.
Ruth resided in South Bend, IN and Menlo Park, CA for many years.
While in California she worked at a fabric store that catered to movie stars and other celebrities. She enjoyed working with exotic fabrics and beautiful materials from all over the world.
In Ruth's later years she created and fashioned clothes and jewelry for family and friends.
Ruth leaves behind two grandchildren, Roxanne (Blake) Alexander, Evergreen, CO and Jaxon Statzell of San Diego, CA; two great grandchildren; two nephews, and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Francis (Floyd) Taylor.
