Graveside services for Ruth Marie Mart, 94, of Knoxville, who died on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Griffin's Nursing Center, were held on Friday, April 27, at Graceland Cemetery. Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiated at the services.

Ruth was born on February 15, 1907 in Marion County, the daughter of Julia Belle (Allen) and Jess E. Mart.
She was one of nine children in the family.

She grew up and attended grade school
in the Columbia area. The family later moved to a farm near Knoxville. She graduated
from Knoxville High School. She attended the
Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines and graduated in 1932.

She worked for many
years at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Later she worked as a private nurse at Collins
Hospital, in homes and at Griffin's Nursing Home in Knoxville. She retired in 1972
after 40 years in nursing. Ruth enjoyed visiting friends and relatives. She loved
to garden.

She also enjoyed playing the piano and baking cookies. She was a longtime
member of First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She was preceded in death
by her parents; three brothers, Howard, Dwight and James; five sisters, Beneti Baker,
Gladys Line, Cletha Chambers, Hallie Bucklew and Lois Riggen.

She is survived by
a son, Dennis Edward Mart of Knoxville and his close friend, Frances Rankin; one
sister-in-law, Irene Mart of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews as well as other
relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the family.
