Mass of Christian burial for Ruth Fitzgerald, 58, who died Monday, November 26,
2001, at North Florida Regional Medical Center, was held on Friday, November 30,
at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville.
Ruth was born in Knoxville. She
lived in Des Moines and Annadale, Va. before moving to Gainesville 17 years ago.
She was an active member of the Gainesville business community while working at
Santa Fe Community College, the House of Travel, the Health Science Center Library
at the University of Florida, and as a self-employed financial planner.
She founded
the Gainesville Area Investment Network, L served as president of Beta Sigma Phi
sorority, and was a member of the Gainesville Area Women's Network.
She was a faithful
member of the Holy Faith and Queen of Peace Catholic Churches in Gainesville, serving
on the Parish Council, the welcoming committee, and the RENEW prayer group. She
loved traveling, golfing, reading, walking, and socializing at Gator Booster Club
events.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick G. Fitzgerald, originally of Collins;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Roger Jap-Tjong of Tampa, Fla. and Laura
and Brian Holloway of Williamsburg, Va.; a son, P.J. Fitzgerald of Grover Beach,
Calif.; a grandson; and two brothers, Ted Lowe of Des Moines and Don Hanika of Seattle,
Wash.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Catholic charities.
