Funeral services for Russell Virris Kaster, 64, of Knoxville, who died Monday, April
12, 2004 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House, were held Thursday, April 15, at
Living Word Fellowship in Knoxville. Pastor Doug Brady officiated at the services.
Mary O’Halloran was organist. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.
Casketbearers were Ted Dykstra, John Haning, Bart Hancock, Brandon Babcock, Terry
Etter, and Al Smith.
Russell was born on Oct. 22, 1939, in Knoxville, the son of
Russell L. and Edith (Porter) Kaster. He was raised in Knoxville and graduated from
Knoxville High School. Following graduation, he worked construction and drove a
truck. For the last 33 years, he has been employed by Van Gorp Manufacturing of Pella
as a welder. He was forced to leave work in November 2003 due to health reasons.
In 1962 he married Peggy Banks and in 1984 he married Cecelia Bower. On June 28,
2003 he married Sabina Hlad at the Living Word Fellowship in Knoxville. In his spare
time, Russ enjoyed working on old cars.
He also liked to attend Sabinals Knoxville
Area Community Theatre plays. He was very proud of his family, he enjoyed living
in a home built by his father and he especially loved his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sabina; a daughter,
Connie Hancock of Indianola; two sons, Rickey Kaster and wife Diane of Iowa City and Kerry Kaster and wife Devon of Troy, Mich.; two grandsons, Bart and Bradley
Hancock; sister, Barbara Smith and husband Al of Hunter’s Glenn, N.C.; two brothers,
Richard Kaster of Des Moines and Robert Kaster and wife Meljean of Marana, Ariz.;
and many other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice
of Pella Comfort House or Living Word Fellowship.
