Roy Willard Steele and his wife Dorothy Irene Steele, from Farmington, were killed in an airplane crash on October 20, 1978.

They were en-route to Las Vegas, Nev from Albuquerque when their plane crashed while taking off after a refueling stop. It appeared that the plane lost power while taking off.

Memorial services for Roy Willard Steele, and Mrs. Dorothy Irene Steele (husband and wife) and Mr. Arthur D. Dimmitt (brother-in-law) will be held today at 2 p.m. in Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Harry Vanderpool, officiating.

Roy W. Steele, 46 and a resident 14 years and of Farmington the past year, died Oct. 20 as the result of a plane accident in Ariz. He is survived by a son and a daughter, both in Des Moines, Iowa; a step-son, David Paulsen of Truto, Ia.; his mother, Iola Steele of Knoxville, Ia; three brothers; Robert, Merrell, Lowell ; and a sister; Arleta Steele.

He owned and operated Guaranteed Automotive on San Pedro for several years and was service manager for Lloyd McKee Motors.

He was service manager for Basin Motors in Farmington at the time of his death. He was very active in the Shrine and loved flying. Services and interment will be held Friday in Knoxville, Iowa, with Bybee-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Irene Steele, 50, a resident 14 years and of Farmington the past year, died Oct 20 as the result of a plane accident in Ariz.

She is survived by a son, Davis Paulsen of Truto, Iowa; a grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Shirley McCreary and Mrs. Mary Lou Dimmitt, both of Albuquerque. She was very active in the Shrine, Daughters of the Nile. She was secretary to the District Manager for Safeway while in Albuquerque and employed by that firm in Farmington. Services and interment will be held today in Knoxville, Iowa, with Bybee-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Arthur D. Dimmitt, 57 and resident 11 years, died Oct 20 as the result of a plane accident in Ariz. He is survived by his wife, Marylou; two sons, Arthur L. Dimmitt of Albuquerque and William C. Dimmitt of Spokane, Wash.;a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Nicola Sue Diedorf) of Albuquerque; a step-son Steven Norman Shaffer; and a step-daughter, Miss Kim Annette Shaffer; four grand-children; and three sisters, Mrs. Elearno L. Manson, of Albuquerque, Mrs. Edith L. Murray of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Mrs. Vivian Harbert of Kansas City, Mo.

He was a veteran of WWII and Korea and retired from the Navy in 1967.

The family of Mrs. Steele requests memorial for her and the others victims of the accident be made to the shrine for Crippled Children.
