Ronald Jean Taylor was born on Aug. 10, 1932, in New Virginia to 0. Frank and Frances I. (McClintic) Taylor.
Ron graduated from Knoxville High School and Indian Hills Community College. He
served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 until 1956. On
June 28, 1969, he married Alice E. Gebbie. They lived in Illinois and Iowa during
all of their marriage. He retired from the VA Medical Center in 1995 after more
than 30 years of service.
Ron had a great interest in cars, fishing, animals, mushroom hunting and visiting
with people. He never met a stranger and in recent years he renewed many friendships,
visited with service friends and did investigative work with his nephew, Rory, on
the family history.
Ron died on May 20, 2006, at the Comfort House in Pella after a courageous battle
with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Orbo “Bud,” Merrill, William
“Bill” and Russel and one sister, Maureen “Nikki” Ginder.
He will be missed and always remembered by his wife, Alice Taylor; daughter, Brenda
(Andrew) Loop; son, Robert “Bob” Taylor; a grandson; four sisters,Vaneta (George)
Howell, Karen (Rich) DeVos, Ruth (Jack) Pinegar, and Mary DeJoode and many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on May 23 with Pastor David Powers officiating.
Interment was in the New Virginia Cemetery at New Virginia.
Memorials may be made to the Comfort House Hospice or to Relay for Life.
