Ronald Allan Henning, age 81, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, in Guttenberg, Iowa.
As Ronald, had wished, his body has been cremated and visitation for Ronald will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Thursday, April 6, 2017, with Ronald’s family present.
A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 6, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Following services, the church will be providing a luncheon for friends and family.
Ronald was born on March 22, 1936. He is the son of William and Mary Pauline (Ward) Henning. Ronald graduated high school in 1953.
In 1954 he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Lowry. During Ronald’s five years in the navy, he was also stationed in the Great Lakes before going to Germany, on the Rhine River Patrol.
Patricia and Ronald were united in marriage on December 14, 1958. The couple moved to Des Moines, Iowa, then moved to Knoxville, Iowa before Ronald transferred jobs to Columbia, Missouri for a short time. Patricia and Ronald returned to Knoxville, Iowa to be with family and raise their children. Patricia and Ronald had three children; Rhonda, Roger, and Vicki.
Ronald worked at the Knoxville Veterans Hospital as a heating a cooling specialist before retiring in 1992. Ronald was very active with the Kiwanians.
Ronald was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with family and being part of his grandchildren’s activities. Ronald is survived by his daughter Rhonda (Dennis) Broughton of Knoxville, one son; Roger (Kimberly) Henning of Des Moines, and daughter, Vicki (Rick) Knudtson of Guttenberg.
Ronald is also survived by one brother, Wayne (Linda) Henning of North Carolina; two sisters, Ann (Grant) Evans of Seattle, Washington, and Carolyn Stark of Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Henning; and one sister Marianne Mabbitt.
A memorial in Ronald’s memory has been established for the family to be decided on a later date.
