Services for Richard Lee Black, 72, rural Knoxville, who died Sept. 23, 1992 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital in Knoxville, were Sept. 26 at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. The Rev. Bob Ward officiated at the service. Music was provided by Karen Becker and John
Crawford. Pallbearers were Tom Bailey Jr., Robert Black, Dean Jones, Arlan Becker, David Hill and Jim Peterson. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Bailey Sr., Ted Jones, Eugene Simbro, Jeff Jones, Folmer Peterson and Reed Smith.
Richard was born on July 30, 1920 in Dallas, the son of. Floyd E. Black and Effie Olive Brown. He spent his entire life in Marion County. Richard attended both Dallas and Knoxville High School and graduated from KHS in 1938.

He was married to Mary Margaret Jones on March 8, 1942 in Kirksville, Mo. The couple then began farming together near Melcher-Dallas.

Richard loved farming. It was as much his hobby as it was his livelihood. He enjoyed taking rides around the neighborhood and seeing the crops.

Richard also enjoyed people, and loved to visit and talk over a cup of coffee. He spent many years on the Board of Trustees for Knoxville Township because of his love for farming and people. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years of Knoxville; his son, Arthur of Knoxville; his daughter, Shirley Grimes of Knoxville; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Rescue Unit.
