Richard David Ballard, 54, of Ankeny Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2005. Services for Rich will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, June 24, 2005, at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

Richard David Ballard. Jr. was born the son of Richard David Ballard and Cleo Bennethum on September 19, 1950, in Maxwell, IA. Rich graduated from Knoxville High School in 1968 and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Safety Education from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO in 1972.

Rich has been employed as a Loss Control Representative for the past 33 years. He has served as president, on the board of directors, and as an active member of the Iowa Safety Council. Rich also had involvement in various other safety organizations.
Rich’s hobbies included motorcycling. golfing, fishing. reading. DJ’ing, and being with his grandchildren.

Rich was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ballard, and his stepfather, Donald Storm. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife. Beth Ballard of Ankeny: mother; Cleo Storm of Knoxville; stepmother; Betty Ballard of Cambridge; a daughter; Natalie Derry and her husband Jeff of Guthrie Center; two step sons; David Wiley and his fiancé Shelby Devries and Greg Wiley and his wife Abbey all of Lake City: three grandchildren; Trey Derry of Guthrie Center and Jazmine and Alyssa Wiley of Ankeny: and numerous other family members and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Des Moines or to the family for the college education of his grandchildren.
