Richard Eugene Bacus, 78, formerly of Knoxville, Iowa passed away January 7, 2023, at home in Iowa City with his loving wife and two children by his side.

Richard was born on July 31, 1944, in Big Spring, Texas to Charles and Mae (Hyslope) Bacus.

He grew up in Knoxville, Iowa, where he graduated from Knoxville High School in 1962. Richard then earned his associate’s degree from AIB College of Business in Des Moines before starting his career in Computer Information Technology.

Richard married his best friend, Linda Spaur on August 11, 1963, in Knoxville, Iowa, and together the couple raised their two children.

He worked for several companies throughout his career until starting his position at Pearson when the family settled in Iowa City in 1985.  Richard later retired in 2009.

He enjoyed golfing in his younger years and was a history buff as well as an avid Hawkeye Fan. Along with Richard’s love for collecting watches, was his love for reading. Richard was above all, a faithful husband and a loving father who enjoyed the simple things in life.Richard Bacus

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Linda Bacus and their two children Bob Bacus and Jennifer Bacus. Also, surviving are his two brothers Steve and Chuck Bacus, three siblings-in-law Dixie (Joe) Felix, Sherrie May, and Kerry (Pat) Spaur, and his beloved four-legged companion Titus.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Janet Bacus, sister-in-law Loretta Crozier and her husband Jim Crozier, and brother-in-law Mike May.
