Raymond C. Hevlin of Des Moines died at the age of 81 on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008,
at the Mercy Hospice House in Johnston. Services were held Monday, Jan. 21, at Wallace
Funeral Home in Newton. Burial was in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Raymond was born March 17, 1926, in rural Marion County to William Vern and Cynthia
(Schrader) Hevlin. He graduated from Knoxville High School before working as a steam
fitter for the Local Union 33 of Des Moines for 60 years.
On Feb. 18, 1950, he married Margaret Ann Smith in Newton.
Margaret preceded him in death in 1976, along with his parents, a brother, Lloyd
Hevlin, and three sisters; Fern VerWoert, Wilma Klein and Rosetta Gilchrist. Raymond is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Ealey and
Linda Sue (John) Franklin, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Raymond loved outdoor activities including fishing, hunting and gardening.
Memorials may be left to Mercy Hospice House.
